Officers must be of at least 21 years of age upon entry into the Police Academy.
Officers must have a Florida state-recognized high school diploma. No college experience is required, but is preferred.
Officers must exhibit trends of interest in Law Enforcement in their past and prove to be law abiding citizens leading up to employment.
Application Process:
The current application period ends Wednesday, September 4th. The upcoming session of Police Academy begins Monday, September 16th and runs through Friday, January 24th.
On Wednesday, September 4th, initial interviews will be conducted and all applicants will be drug tested.
On Monday, September 9th, secondary interviews will be conducted, which include a polygraph test.
On Wednesday, September 11th, all remaining applicants will be given a psychological test, intended to determine whether they are mentally capable of handling the pressures of a Police Officer.
A final physical examination begins at 6AM on Saturday, September 14th. All remaining applicants that pass this examination will begin Police Academy on September 16th.
Officers-in-training will be paid 80% full salary while attending the Police Academy. Upon graduation, a $15,000 bonus will be awarded as compensation for the lack of full salary during training.
Police Officer I salary is $48,660 and promotion to Police Officer II is expected after a 16 month probationary period (including 4 months academy).
